Inspired Reading Programme

After another successful year of our Inspired Reading Programme, we celebrated our Summer Soirée at Dockside with our incredible Reading Mentors. The event is a chance for us to thank our fabulous volunteers for their hard work and dedication over this academic year and for the time they give so generously to the children they support.

We are so lucky to have such a special bunch of ladies and gents working with us to help local youngsters to achieve their potential.

We can’t leave the children out of the celebrations, so the last couple of weeks we have been visiting each of our 10 Inspired Reading Schools to hold our End of Year Celebrations with our Reading Mentors, Teaching Staff and of course the children who have been supported on the programme. All the children have worked so hard since the start of the programme in September. Each and every one of them have improved their reading skills and their self-confidence has grown. It’s been truly inspiring to watch them develop a love of reading.

The children were very proud of the special mention that they were given by their Reading Mentor and so excited to be presented with a book and certificate that they couldn’t wait to start reading!

We want to thank everyone who kindly donated books to the Children’s Book Appeal this year which meant that we could present each child working on the programme with a book to take home for the summer.

The biggest ‘THANK YOU’ goes to our amazing Reading Mentors for all their incredible support and dedication to the children in their groups. We are so lucky to have such inspirational people who give their time so generously to make a difference to the children that they have supported throughout the year. It has been wonderful to hear the positive feedback visiting our schools. All have commented that they have noticed an improvement in the children’s reading, self-esteem, confidence and communication skills.

Incredible things really do happen when a community comes together 💚💚💚

“The reading mentors are excellent. They are kind, caring and very generous with their time. They work hard to build up relationships with the children and the children always respond to them. The reading mentors help the children feel special. This really helps to build up their confidence and communication skills. In addition to this, the time spent by the reading mentor listening to the children read and encouraging them when they are struggling has helped all the children in the programme this year to make accelerated progress in their reading, whatever stage of reading they were at the start of the programme. The value of this to the children’s development is immeasurable. Thank you for all that you do to support our children”. Malka Billing, Year 2 Teacher, Woodlands Primary School

“We are extremely grateful to every single person who is part of the Inspired Reading Programme, from the co-ordinators to the reading mentors. The children in our school value the time spent with their reading mentors and this is lovely to see. Their faces light up every time their mentors come into school, it is the highlight of their week for some. We love how much the children have developed a love of reading through the programme. The reading mentors have built excellent relationships with the children and have got to know them personally. We want to thank each and every person who is part of the programme. You have made a difference to our children’s lives”. Rachel Robinson, Year 2 Teacher, Fender Primary School
