Following another successful year of our Inspired Reading Programme, we were delighted to celebrate with our wonderful Reading Mentors at our annual Summer Soirée, held at Wallasey Village Library.
The event was an opportunity to recognise and thank our dedicated volunteers for the time, care and commitment they have given throughout the academic year. Their enthusiasm and encouragement have made a real difference to the children they have supported, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such an inspiring group of volunteers helping local young people to achieve their potential.
We were also delighted to celebrate a very special milestone as five of our wonderful Reading Mentors reached five years of volunteering with us. Special congratulations to Ann, Julie, Linda, Sandi and Sue, and a heartfelt thank you for your continued dedication, commitment and the lasting difference you make to the lives of the children you support.
Our celebrations continued over the following weeks as we visited each of our 10 Inspired Reading schools to host End of Year Celebration events with Reading Mentors, teaching staff and, most importantly, the children who have taken part in the programme.
Since the programme began in September, every child has shown remarkable commitment and determination. It has been a pleasure to see their reading ability improve, their confidence grow and their enjoyment of reading flourish. Watching their progress over the year has been truly inspiring.
Each child received a personalised mention from their Reading Mentor before being presented with a certificate and a book to enjoy over the summer holidays. Their pride and excitement were wonderful to see, with many eager to begin reading their new book straight away!
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who supported our 2026 Children’s Book Appeal. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide books for all of our participating schools to give to children, helping to encourage reading throughout the summer break.
Finally, our heartfelt thanks go to our incredible Reading Mentors. Their kindness, patience and unwavering dedication have had a lasting impact on the children they have supported. During our visits to schools, staff consistently spoke of the positive changes they have seen in the children’s reading ability, confidence, self-esteem and communication skills. These achievements are a testament to the power of community, encouragement and the commitment of our volunteers.
Together, we are helping to inspire a lifelong love of reading and giving children the confidence to reach their full potential.
Incredible things really do happen when a community comes together.
If you would you like to Volunteer and help make a difference in a young person’s life, we’d love to hear from you!
